Snappy Campers, start your engines!

Still a little wonky from a long winter's nap, this Snappy Camper is finally ready to come out of hibernation.  My biological camping clock has prompted me to start sniffing around the web for the latest camping gear and rousing the troops to expect a whirlwind of group evites in the old inbox.  In anticipation of the last minute requests to 'resend that email I deleted back in February', I have created a Facebook Group to organize all of the '09 Snappenings.

What's on the slate (so far):

We're kicking off the camping season with a mid-June trip to reliable Rocky Neck .  The nearby beach, roomy sites and pleasant staff make this a "two snaps up" trip each and every visit.

As double pinky sworn last year, I will spend every Fourth of July that I am alive at Dune's Edge Campground  in Provincetown, Massachusetts.  If you don't see me at the parade with my red white and blue feather boa, please call 911.

A mid-July jaunt to Salisbury Beach is planned.  A local stomping ground to the campers from the Greater Boston area, the river meets the ocean atmosphere is a real 'pissah' (and I mean that in the very best New England good-way).

This year's wild card is Sweetwater Forest Campground.  I love Brewster for it's 'real' Cape Cod feel, and low-key charm, and the woman who <promptly> returned my call in the off-season seemed to personify that quite nicely.  Plus I'm a sucker for anyplace that has free hayrides AND wifi under one proverbial roof.

The season finale is scheduled for Labor Day Weekend at Hammonassett. If I were to have a 'best value in camping history' award, I would present it to the State of Connecticut for creating and maintaining this and it's sister site,  Rocky Neck.  The warm (for Northerners anyway) waters of the Long Island Sound are located within the borders of the campgrounds and provide the perfect location for any water-related activities.  At $15 clams a night for up to 6 people and 2 cars, it's almost a financial crime not to go. Don't be a Bernie Madoff-go camping for Pete's sake!

I'll be virtually touring for another spot or two to hit before the frost covers the ground and the Snappy Campers go into hibernation once again.  Have a snappy spot you'd like to suggest? Shout it out to me at Jennifer@theSnappyCamper.com.
